This 5-hour workshop is designed to provide you with advanced Ortho-K troubleshooting skills.  Three of the world's most notable Ortho-K practitioners will provide you with tools to solve some of your most troubling Ortho-K challenges.  Please Note:  This Workshop is NOT appropriate for Ortho-K beginners.  

This advanced workshop is open to all attendees but is mandatory for all those sitting for the FIAO written test.  Seating is limited, so please register early.  

This advanced fitting presentation brings the audience right into the process and provides clear and concise details on the principles of corneal reshaping and how we fit custom designed lenses, calling upon decades of teaching experience between the speakers. We put even the most inexperienced fitter right into the presentation which covers straight forward design choices along with how to handle some of the most challenging fits. The course instructors will teach new fitting methods as well as how to customize your lens of choice that you currently utilize.  Audience participation is mandatory as we answer your questions as well. In this presentation, the audience becomes in effect the third presenter and an exciting interactive day awaits you!  Be aware though, attending this exciting session presented by world leaders in their field will change how you view your own world!

This lecture will teach the characteristics and properties of a standard Orthokeratology design. The attendee will be able to understand the principle of corneal molding induced by the Ortho-K lens.  You will learn to dissect the patient's corneal shape in order to create a more perfect Ortho-K design.  Then each individual curve of an Ortho-K lens will be examined, exploring the function as well as the effect of modification on the treatment outcome.  Finally, the subspecialties of Ortho-K will be discussed - myopia control, hyperopic, presbyopic and astigmatic designs.

Part 2          Problem Solving in Orthokeratology     10:55 AM - 1:25 PM

This lecture will cover the basics on fluorescein and topography to control the fit in Ortho-k and understand changes and improvements in any fit.   Attendees will enjoy a detailed lecture on advanced NaFI analysis.  Learn the intricacies of evaluating a fit/treatment based on careful NaFl observation.  Understand the relationship between topography and NaFl.  Finally, after identifying the treatment problem, learn how to customize the lens to insure the best optimization for your patient.

WORKSHOP INFORMATION

The ArtMost/GOV workshop will cover exciting aspects of the Art/Most/GOV range of lenses. As ArtMost/GOV® is an innovative company that has designed and patented a wide range of specialty rigid gas permeable lenses especially for Orthokeratology and Myopia Control, we will cover the techniques of High Myopia Molding, Toric Myopia Molding and the new exciting Soft OK lenses from ArtMost.  High Astigmatic molding can be achieved with NEW aspheric toric or tilted AZ (alignment zone) with size control of the lenses. Myopia for up to -12.00D can easily be achieved.

The NEW ArtMost® soft specialty contact lenses, SoftOK® daywear, are good alternatives for the fitting and rehabilitation of the irregular cornea with special focus on Keratoconus and Post LASIK ectasias. Unlike other traditional soft multifocal designs, ArtMost® SoftOK® daywear is a new and innovative way that is designed to “simulate” GOV® Ortho-K treatment zone on the eye thereby aiding in the control of progressive Myopia. It is especially useful in helping the high myopia cases that are not achievable with Orthokeratology.

The workshop will also help you to understand fully the mechanism behind the success of stable Hyperopic and Presbyopic molding for a wide range of refractive errors up to +6.00D.  Trouble prevention and troubleshooting is always an important section of any workshop and this section will cover how to correct a problem if one arises. Speaker:  Dr. Rob Gerowitz, OD, FIAO

This workshop will inform attendees about demodex infestation as found in a typical private practice patient.  During an initial one-hour tutorial and one-hour wet-lab, Dr. Gerowitz will discuss various treatment methods as well as practice management concepts designed to make demodex treatment a common practice in one’s office.

The second portion of the workshop will include a hands-on wet lab portion, where attendees will have access to real subjects and video slit lamps.

Materials and equipment provided will make this a “turn-key” proposition in which attendees will be able to start treating demodex almost immediately upon return to their offices and quickly recoup their cost for attending this workshop. At the conclusion of the workshop, all attendees will receive:

+ A new Alger brush with 5 disposable 0.5MM tips

+ An off-label device, “The Hummingbird” designed to greatly reduce one’s cost of treating demodex and blepharitis

+ Additional scrubs and tea-tree oil preparations for the treatment of demodex in-office and at home

Instructors who are Fellows of the Scleral Lens Education Society will provide hands on fitting experience using scleral lenses from several different lens companies.

This three-hour course challenges practicing Wave fitters to design lenses for other Wave fitters attending VBD. During exhibition hours, Wave is capturing topography maps for myopic, hyperopic and semi-scleral candidates. During the workshop, three experienced Wave designers will design Wave lenses for the selected candidates. Each decision in the design process is explained with plenty of time for question and answers. The following week, lenses are produced and dispensed to the candidates who in turn reports their results to the group as a whole. Eventually, all designs, maps, and results are available for study.
